Highlight Finishes You Just Must Have – A Salon Sora Cosmetic Recommendation

By | Makeup | No Comments

When it comes to cosmetics and make-up living in a place like Boca Raton, you must remember to select the right foundation and finishes. In fact, with the hot, humid weather if you use the wrong base the rest of your makeup will not stay put or even stay on your face. In this blog, we reveal some of the best highlighters to use for your skin tone and the type of look you want to make you look healthy and not ruddy up your finish. Grab your powder brush and let’s go!

Since we’re talking about highlighters and not foundation, let’s just say, when your skin is tan, you don’t want to cover that up. You want to give the illusion that your skin is shining and healthy with the same glow you see actresses like Jennifer Lawrence sporting around. If you pick a highlighter that’s too light, it might make you look ghostly or ghastly either way you want to look at it. So, here’s what we recommend:

  1. Use a great concealer and substitute in places where you typically use foundation.
  2. Select bronzers that match your skin tone.
  3. Use your highlighters sparingly and don’t be afraid to use different shades in diverse places.
  4. Strategize your look with the right colors.

If you ask Kylie Jenner or Kim Kardashian, they will probably tell you they pioneered the “concealer rules” rule. This is the foundation that you will use generously on the face to give a base. Say bye-bye to using foundations of any sort. When you apply, the concealer get a good one, and two of the best would be Boo-Boo Concealer and NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. The concealer needs to be implemented in the following places:

Under eyes and in a ‘V’ shape below the dark circles, between the brows and on the ball of the chin. If you have any other blemishes, cover them too. The Wonder Pencil by NYX is incredible for covering flaws and should be in every person’s makeup kit.

Once you’ve covered your dark circles and other discolorations, it’s time to highlight.

Technically you’re going to be contouring the facial features by using your darkest highlighter under the cheekbones, neck, chin and temples. After you’ve done this the next technique is to use your lightest highlighter on the top of the cheek bone, bridge of the nose, the center of the forehead and on the ball of your chin. We love the NAKED collections by Urban Decay as well as the Milk Makeup sticks. If you have a nice warm tan, try the Holographic Stick that can be worn on any part of the face and leaves a gorgeous lavender tone.

By learning to use your highlighter with ease, you’ll soon be kissing your foundation’s good bye once and for all. Keep in mind; you can always book a session with our make-up artists to give you a hands-on lesson.

Salon Sora’s Seal or No Deal Concealer Techniques

By | Makeup | No Comments

make up salon boca ratonTen years ago make-up and cosmetologists may have disagreed with this theory. They used to claim concealer was only good for covering dark circles and flaws. Celebrities like Khloe Kardashian and Gigi Hadid maybe sporting fresh faces, but, one thing is for sure, they aren’t afraid of using concealer for more than covering a zit. In this week’s blog, we’ll share Salon Sora’s secret weapon techniques for using a concealer that you’ll love.

First some simple tools:

•    Complexion Sponges in a variety of shapes
•    Buffing Brush
•    Angle Brush
•    Highlight Brush
•    Blending Brush
•    Boo-Boo Cover-up
•    Wonder Pencil by NYX
•    2-tubes of Concealer, one slightly darker than your skin tone and one lighter

While it’s not 100% necessary to have these brushes, we find that a nice variety of brushes can make the application more even and last longer. Your concealer will stretch further as well.

1.    Start with your moisturizer. Let it soak into the skin for up to 1-minute before applying any make-up.
2.    Next, use your Wonder Pencil and cover any sun spots or flaws. Depending on how dark these marks are, will depend on how much you may need to put on. Work from the center out.
3.    Powder these areas to set in.
4.    Now use your highlighting concealer (lighter than skin) apply to eyelids and inner and outer corners. Blend well.
5.    Use concealer below the eyes. This should be in the shape of a V and extends down to the tip of the nose. The old way was to cover bags only making people have the raccoon effect. Blend with your buffing brush. The closer to the eyelash line uses your finger to blend.
6.    Once you have done under your eyes, apply lighter concealer on the eyebrow bone. Lightest color above the eyebrows and below the eyebrow as a highlighter. Blend, blend, blend.
7.    You can achieve a thinner looking nose by using the concealer down the middle of the nose; this also works well on the top of your chin.
8.    Boo-Boo cream can be placed over flaws or used under the eyes. What we like about this ultra-concealer is it lasts long even during humid weather.
9.    If you want to make your lips stand out and keep your lipstick from bleeding through, line you lips with the Wonder Pencil, then use your blending brush to soften. This is excellent for people with smoker’s lines.

Once you’ve applied concealer, finish and set it with a dusting powder. Your skin will look young and refreshed. A little lipstick and mascara and you’ve got the super-sexy Salon Sora secret weapon.

This Week’s Blog Salon Sora’s Smokey Eye Effects

By | Hair Salon, Makeup | No Comments

This fall we’re seeing a heavy makeup look with the Smokey eyes, natural lip and perfect bronze kissefacial salon boca ratond skin. It’s not that difficult to achieve this look no matter what your eye shape may be. In this blog we demonstrate several ways to get an ultra-sexy eye that pops anytime of the day or night and we’re doing it “Salon Sora Style!” Ready, set, grab your eyeliner!

FIRST: Start with an eyelid primer that grips the makeup no matter how muggy the weather is. When you live in a place like Boca Raton, dark eye makeup can smudge and make you look like you’ve just stepped out of a horror flic! By using a good eye primer, the makeup will last longer.
NEXT: Put your shadow on. Select your lighter color and cover the lid from the crease to the lash line. Once you’re done with the lightest color, such as cream, gray or light blue, then you’re going to use the darker colors. Only on the edges both inside and out. We like to use a medium hue, then go to the darkest on the outer edges. Don’t forget to tap your brush for excess powder. This is one mess you don’t want to clean up.
NOW: Blend, blend, blend. If you prefer a darker effect for the evening, then re-apply the color until it’s to the achieved look.
FINISH: With liquid eyeliner and set with dark or black powder to match. Go into the lower lash line, corner and top lash line.

Once you’ve completed your eyeliner, add a brown or burgundy in the crease to give the eye dimension.

Curl your eyelashes before applying mascara. If you use faux eyelashes, apply those after mascara. Many people think it’s the other way around, but if you apply the mascara first the fake eyelashes will stick better and will be re-usable. We could do a whole other tutorial on strip lashes alone, but today our focus is no smoky eyes.
Once you’ve let the eyelashes dry, then cleanup any excess powder with a Q-tip or your finger, be careful not to smudge. It’s a matter of preference on whether you add eyeliner to the inside of the lower lash to the tear duct. Some variation is to add white or varying colors for a more dramatic effect.

There you have it! Salon Sora’s smoky eye effect! We’ve got professional makeup artists on staff to help. Call for your appointment today!

50 Shades of Cindy Crawford

By | Makeup | No Comments

CindycrawfordCindy Crawford just celebrated her 50th birthday in St. Barth’s recently.  The once Malibu resident has seen her share of the Florida sunshine and has certainly never wore it better.  She’s always been a woman that helped set the standard for ‘smoking hot’ and now turning half a century she continues to wow us.  She’s helped to pave the way for the less than blonde look making it a stunning event to be a brunette.  Here’s a timeline for Cindy and her luscious locks that make this former model from the model that grew up in DeKalb, Illinois.

Crawford made her debut as a model during the 80’s and also walked the runway for Chanel, Calvin Klein and DYNY.  You couldn’t go anywhere without seeing this midwestern beauty on the cover of nearly every magazine. Incredibly enough most people remember the long legs of this supermodel than when she emerged in front of a Pepsi machine at an advertisement during the halftime show in the Super bowl.

The half owner of Rooms to Go can be found in some glamorous pictures back in the beginning of her career in 1980 when you can find her on the cover of Vogue Magazine in several editions.  The gorgeous model looks amazing when she’s got wet hair and if you remember she was often seen with big fluffy curls, long, long, long layers and often baby highlights to her dark brown strands.

Primarily, you see her wearing a part down the middle and she is fortunate to have the forehead to do it with grace, but you can find her in both straightened looks as well as super messy raaarrrrr! I think one of her best looks was when she cut her hair to donate to charity for cancer patients.  Cindy went with a Lob and it looked spectacular on her.  Her color helped the hair look full and thick with different shades of copper, blonde and chocolate mousse framing her long face.

Cindy tends to look best with a dark, smoky eye and natural color on the lips. But who can forget those eyebrows?  She definitely goes for a dark, full and controlled look when it comes to her brows. Her eye makeup tends to draw you in with this alluring look. Perfect for a transition of dark to light hair color. She certainly eats the right foods and takes care of her figure.  At age 50 she was seen in a skimpy bikini and looking incredible.  No fear, turning old here!  She is a timeless beauty no doubt.  The tabloids report that she drinks a lot of green tea for stomach issues.  We also heard she loves Tequila.

She claims to eat a lot of poultry, salads, sushi and pasta with turkey meatballs as a diet, but she’s also feeding her family of two kids Kaia and Presley so eating alfalfa sprouts is probably not in question.

We know one thing is for sure at age 50 she’s still a rocking hot lady and we hope to see more of her trying new hairstyles and keeping the rest of us anticipating if she’ll ever age.

If you’re thinking about trying a new look like Cindy did with her ‘Lob’ cut, we can help you find the right style for you.  Don’t forget every Monday you get 50% off on a Haircut & Blow-dry at Boca’s best salon.
