Salon Sora’s 3 Tips for Blow Drying Your Hair You Can’t Afford to Miss

By | Hair Care, Hair Styles | No Comments

Salon Sora Boca RatonWhen it comes to living in a place like South Florida, you can’t allow your hair to dry naturally and expect it to look great. If you’re looking for that perfect cut, you also need to know just how to blow dry and style your hair. Otherwise, you’ll end up with frizz, flat, freaky and hair that will make you scream. On this blog we give you 3 tips that will help make blow drying your hair faster and more attractive.

Tip 1.) Use a Leave-In Conditioner

Tip 2.) Use a Brush That’s Right for Your Hair.

Tip 3.) Section the Hair with Clips Before You Start

Instructions: Start with the bottom back layers and twirl your hair with the blow dryer following down the shaft of the hair. Simultaneously keep sliding the brush, working down to the ends. Next, do the same, but in the opposite direction. Repeat with all sections of the hair. For the smaller hairs near your temples, use a small curling brush to straighten the little baby hairs in this area. If you have long hair do one side, then the other. Don’t attempt to blow dry the hair at the same time. If you want to have more volume, than take a section at the crown of the head and blow dry straight up.

Using a leave-in conditioner is really important. This is particularly true for people living in places like Boca Raton or any beach towns. Leave-in conditioners create a barrier for your hair against the UV rays that can damage it.

Finding the right brush can often times be challenging. Ask your stylist what he/she recommends to get the optimum results you desire.

Sectioning the hair in smaller areas not only help you get a straighter look, it also cuts back blow dry time. It’s much faster for your dryer to work in smaller sections than blow drying your entire head. Even flipping the hair over and blow drying it from the back won’t help the hair dry as fast.

The look is a head full of straight hair that is super sexy and will stand up in the hot Florida sun.

A Salon Sora Stylist Perspective on Hair Care

By | Hair Styles | No Comments

hair color salon boca ratonThere are many stylists in South Florida today. One thing is certain, Salon Sora only selects 5-star stylists, colorists and hair dressers. This week’s blog we feature the lovely and very talented Andrea Giraldo.

Q: What was the catalyst to becoming a hairdresser for you?

Andrea: I really didn’t think much about becoming a hairdresser when I was finished with high school. I was doing my friends and relatives hair, just for fun and I finally decided pursue it as a career because everyone was telling me I was good at it.

Q: What types of things do you take into consideration during a client consultation?

Andrea: The texture of the hair, shape of the face, what they do for a living, their lifestyle etc., I want to give them a style they’re happy with that suits their everyday life.

Q: What’s the one common mistake people make, with their hair?

Andrea: Not cutting it enough. When you are growing your hair from short to long, it’s important to have it cut at least once every other month. If you’re trying to have long hair, by not cutting it, will make it unhealthy. The ends will split and break, creating a mess, when what you want is long and healthy hair.

Q: What type of advice can you give to people living in Boca Raton, when it comes to hair care?

Andrea: Make sure to wear sunscreen. Use some type of leave-in conditioner or oil that will protect the hair. The hot Florida sun can be very damaging and will ruin your hair and can potentially burn the scalp. It’s important to protect the hair when going in the sun.

Q: Are there any types of hair products you recommend?

Andrea: I recommend staying away from both cheap drug-store shampoo and box color or home hair color treatments. These products are damaging and won’t give you the best results. I’m surprised when people spend the money they do on getting their hair done, then using a cheap shampoo or color that will waste all the money they just spent at the salon. You need to use products that are high quality and you’ll get the best look.

Q: What type of trends do you see for the Fall 2016?

Andrea: Natural looking hair. Although the Ombre styles are still in, more natural looking highlights that are painted on in targeted places and not foiled strands are more of the look that’s popular. Ombre isn’t going away, but it’s the more natural look everyone is asking for.

Q: What type of hair do you prefer to work with?

Andrea: I love all types of hair, long, short, it really doesn’t matter to me. I feel my strength is doing precision haircuts, I love to work with short, edgy cuts. But, I really love to work with everyone.

Q: What was your most favorite hair style you’ve created over your career?

Andrea: I used one of my friends as a model for a hair show, it took 9 hours to do her hair. We used many colors such as blues, violets, blacks and it really looked beautiful. The finished look can be seen on my Instagram page.

Q: Should we wear product during hot, humid weather?

Andrea: Of course. What works for one person’s hair may not work for another, so it’s a matter of preference. Don’t buy cheap hairsprays. They tend to get gummy and sticky in bad weather. It’s best to go natural with a leave-in conditioner.

Q: What advice can you give to future hair stylists:

Andrea: “Do everything with love and passion”.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our introduction to Andrea and learning what her perspectives are on hair. Keep your eye out for more interviews from our incredibly crafty stylists.

Salon Sora’s Cure for Curly Hair

By | Hair Styles | No Comments

A gorgeous set of locks is a treasure when you learn to manage those natural curls.  It’s not hard to ‘shake what your momma gave you’ when you find the right solutions for your hair. Every curl is having its perfect place on the top of your head and in this blog we’ll be sharing some smoking hot tips, that will make you feel blessed, instead of cursed with your spirals and waves! Ready, Set, Read on!

When you live in a place such as Boca Raton, it’s oftentimes difficult to keep your hair from becoming unruly. With the heat, humidity and sun’s harmful UV rays it seems almost impossible to find the right solution for curly hair. First, you’ll need to determine your curl profile.

CurlyhairAre your curls, soft ringlets or are you suffering with frizzy, uncontrollable hair? Depending on your hair texture you’ll need to decide what look you are trying to achieve and what your hair does organically.

Some people will argue that washing hair with homeopathic products such as beer or apple cider will help. We’ve heard that people use honey, avocado, Aloe Vera and eggs make hair more manageable. If you’ve used these household items before and feel they’re working for you, then don’t fix what’s not broke. However, here are a few other solutions.

People needing help with curly hair should consider their shampoo and conditioner first and foremost. Shampoos that contain a lot of alcohol and other drying chemicals isn’t the best. Try using Goldwell’s line specifically formulated for people with curls such as Kerasilk which is made with natural ingredients like wheat bran and silk proteins. This line was formulated for dry, processed hair and is a great product for those with messy tresses. Another product you might want to keep in your bag is Goldwell’s TameFrizz line. These products help eliminate frizz without leaving hair oily, and weighted down.

Goldwell has a way to define your curls when you’re looking to show off your vibrissa of swirls. Goldwell’s signature products such as CurlUp supports curls and elasticity, restores hydration to the shaft and hair follicles and gives your curls a bounce to be proud of.

If your curls have turned into more frizz, then consider a moisturizing hair care line like Goldwell’s MoistRepair. These products were constructed to replace moisture in damaged hair. Hair that’s seen too much heat and chemical can start to break off after a while. Be sure to ask your stylist for recommendations.

Don’t forget, one of the easiest ways to control your curls will be with the right haircut. Learning to manage your hair and finding the right way to wear those incredible curls will be much easier than to wish you had straight hair. When visiting Salon Sora, we’ll help you unravel the mystery behind YOUR locks and not someone else’s. Contact us today, for a curly consultation!

Braided Solutions for South Florida Weather

It seems that braided hairstyles never go out. Just look around South Florida you’ll see a lot of the braided look.

Finding a braid that looks great isn’t difficult when there are so many different ways to wear your hair in a braid.  Even people with shorter hair can add a braid or two to dress up their current look. Braided styles are great for Southern Florida.  Days when the weather is full of heat, wind or humidity try one of these braids to keep you looking smoking hot.

The fishtail braid is a classic and elegant style that has a little bit of an edge. Fishtail braids work best for longer hair.  You can wear this braid straight down the back of the head or to the side.  If Boca Raton Hair Braidingyou’d like to change it up a bit, do a Bubble Fishtail. This newer braid is where you section the braid in three parts by securing with a hair tie. Then pulling the braid apart creating a newer way to wear the fishtail.

The French braid is another beautiful and sexy look.  You’ll need to have medium to longer hair to wear a French braid.  If your hair is at shoulder length, it should work.  You can wear one braid or two.  To get a tighter braid, style the hair while it’s wet or use a water bottle to dampen the hair before you start. Cross over the section first then add hair from the top of the head next to the part. Then alternate with the opposite side of the braid.  Keep your hand close to your head when your braiding and pull the hair tightly.  This is one of the prettiest looks no matter what your age.

The milkmaid braid has a demure and mature appearance.  You start by braiding pigtails then using a bobby pin and securing the braided pigtail to the top of the head, creating a crown.  To give a sultrier style, pull the hair loose once while braiding and before securing to the top of the head.

Whether you select the edgy fishtail or the classic French braid, you can be a part of this timeless trend no matter what the weather in South Florida may bring.

Five Past Celebrity Styles that are as Hot As Boca Raton

When you think of timeless allure of women like Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Davis and Lana Turner you think of classic hairstyles.  Many of those elegant looks are still popular today. Whether you want a new look or your refreshing the one, you already have. We’ve put a few of our favorite looks in this post for you to try.

Pin curls:  Section your head into several pieces. Then roll your hair from the ends, and then take two bobby pins and crisscross into place. Alternate the sections by pinning forward or pinning backward.  Let the hair air dry.  Once the hair is dry remove the pins, you can brush or just use your fingers and put the curls into place.  Spray the hair with a lightweight hairspray. You are now ready to turn a few heads.

Bangs:  Betty Page rocked her style with a big chunky bang that framed her face and gave her an exotic look.  Bangs are still the craze today.  Whether you do a side bang, a fringe bang or a full thick bang, you’ll have a beautiful new doo.  Bangs are often a way to refresh a stagnated look.  Not all bangs are right for all people so be sure to ask your stylist what the best style would be for your face and hair type.

Classic Waves: Build body and give that in gorgeous Vogue hairdressing with classic waves.  You can achieve this look by using a large barreled curling iron then pinning the hot curls loosely to the head.  Let the hair cool after lightly spraying with your favorite product. Take the pins out and then use a comb to put the hair into place.  Dreamy scrumptious and ultra-classic.

Side Swept: Whether you curl your hair or wear it naturally the side sweep is elegant and makes a statement.  To get this look, Brush all the hair over the left shoulder. Slide a hair pin into the hair angled upwards toward the ear. Take a section of hair in front of the left ear and twist it towards the back. Pin it in place so it hides the first hairpin.

Braided buns: The braid is a fabulous and sexy way to way your locks.  Try pulling your hair on the top of your head and use a hair tie to keep it together.  Braid your ponytail and wrap around in a circle.  Secure with bobby pins and a little bit of spray.  This style is terrific to wear to your office or out on the town.

These vintage looks continue to perform for centuries.  We can thank many of our celebs from the past to present for keeping these coiffures at the forefront of classic and gorgeous style.

Ombre Styling Boca Raton

Welcome back to Boca snowbirds!!

If you are looking for a great look for your hair while spending your winter in South Florida, Salon Sora can make you look fabulous. It seems the rage with hair color is Ombre these days.  Every stylist’s blog is using this term.  In case you’re unfamiliar with the Ombre styles here’s our description.  This is where the roots of your hair are darker and natural shades while the bottoms are and highlighted at the ends.  You’re probably seeing this ultra-hot look throughout South Florida, especially Boca Raton.

If you are bold and expressive, you’re going to love this look.  Try tinting the ends to pastel pinks or blues to give a wild and fun splash to your do.  This looks spectacular on platinum blonde hair.  Grays and purples are bohemian rhapsodies with tanned skin.  Dark brown to light Carmel is a gorgeous alternative for brunettes.  Or if you’re a little more daring try bronze tips.  This is a  dramatic look that can extra class to even the most subdued browns.

With contrasted colors, the ends can be a variety of anything from blond to reds to blacks leaving the roots soft and untouched.  Think of multi-colors that don’t blend, each making its statement.

Ombre Hair Color Boca Raton

Ombre Hair Color

Fiery reds look simply dashing with coppers, strawberry, and blondes dabbled together.  The darkest red needs to stay on the top and then cascades to the lighter bottoms of the tips.  Chocolate and Cherry will blow everyone away.  The point is not to be subtle.

You’ll turn heads with an Ombre look of Mahogany fading with violet or red to spice up any night on the town in Boca Raton.   This is a great look for Latina’s and People with Dark Complexions.

Platinum blondes dramatically change their locks by adding deep reds to the ends.  It’s a retro style that can give any angel a little bit of an edge.  The next time you’re ready for a quick change ask your stylist to show you samples of reds that would spruce up your white locks.

Even short hair gets a quick boost with the contrast of the darker roots with highlighted ends.  The change of colors gives the illusion of fuller hair.

Ombre Styles are the latest trend, but it appears this look will be here to stay for a while.  Speak to your stylist who can offer more advice for skin tones and colors.
